Blocked Drains
Pymble

Slow draining sinks, gurgling noises on pipes, or water pooling in the yard, clogged pipes in Pymble? Beyond West Pymble, the wilderness reaches to the back fence, and indigenous tree roots can reach through the smallest of cracks in the sewer pipe. We use a cctv drain camera to check where they entered, then extract them from the sewer pipe and reline the sewer pipe, preventing their return in the future.

Blocked Drain Plumbers in Pymble

Pymble is two places from a drainage standpoint. There is the side of Pymble close to the Pacific Highway with the station and Pymble Ladies’ College and then West Pymble which consists of cut low-density areas between Avon, Telegraph, and Lofberg Roads bordered by Lane Cove National Park’s bushland. As local plumbers we have completed 31 jobs across both sides of Pymble in the past two years, from our Upper North Shore base at Wahroonga five minutes away.

It is the bushland which set this area apart. Native trees can be more invasive than any species which you can find in a garden and their roots can reach great distances below the surface toward underground pipes to find moisture escaping through a broken joint. The nature reserve includes bark, sticks, and tough leaves, which do not decompose and keep piling up with time. Additionally, many properties in Pymble overlooked surface drainage altogether which is an entirely different plumbing issue than just blockage.

We camera every line before quoting to pinpoint the exact location of the fault, so you know whether you need drain cleaning, relining of damaged pipes, or drainage that actually works.

What Causes Blocked Drains in Pymble?

In Pymble the cause usually has something to do with what is growing behind the fence, though grease buildup, foreign objects, kitchen sink waste and pipe damage from broken pipes play their part too.

Roots from the bushland boundary

Properties neighboring Lane Cove National Park get to deal with roots of native species, rather than garden species. Native species such as Eucalypts and shrub species can push through roots much further, which leads them to find any opening or crack at an old joint in the sewerage line. We will track the sewerage line with a camera, cut the roots and reline the line with minimal disruption so there won’t be any openings that roots can work their way through.

Surface water with nowhere to go

Some drainage problems in Pymble are not due to blockages. Water pools around the house or yard because the drainage was never correctly installed in the first instance. We high pressure clean the lines that were there previously to clear grease, tree roots and other debris, and put in the necessary pipes using virgin PVC pipework, along with strip drains, a properly constructed pit, and downpipes. Regular maintenance and a quick system check before heavy rain or extreme weather often catches a design flaw.

Bark and sticks from the reserve

Bushland litter does not decompose like your garden litter. In bushland litter, such items as bark strips, hard leaves and little sticks stay there in a stormwater pit and cause blocked storm water drains. Clearing the pit is one step, never with harsh chemical cleaners, which corrode pipes and harm the environment, but the line underneath is then checked too, as the material packed in usually extends beneath the grate.

Ageing terracotta sewer lines

The older houses in this area have terracotta pipes installed many decades ago, all sitting within the section of the network it’s the property owner’s responsibility to maintain, right up to the connection point with the main. However, because of the constant movement of soil, joints have opened through time allowing tree roots to enter through the cracks. We use a liner through any intact sections around the crack where the pipes are okay. If the pipes have broken, we excavate the bad section and replace it with new pipework.

How It Works

How We Clear Your Pymble Drains

1

Clear the Blockage

Hydro-jetting or an electric eel removes the blockage and cleans the pipe walls back to full flow.

3

Diagnose the Cause

We show you the footage and explain what caused it — roots, grease, a cracked pipe or fallen ground.

Prevent & Protect

We reline, repair or set a maintenance plan so the same drain doesn’t block again.

A Pymble Job We're Proud Of

Established home on Beechworth Road, Pymble

Water against the house every storm, and no blockage to find

The owner of a house on Beechworth Road reached out to us because, after every heavy storm, they experienced water pooling at the back of their home, the kind of problem that starts as slow drainage and unpleasant odours and, left untreated, turns into flooding, property damage and health risks. Two plumbers had already inspected their stormwater drainage system and given it a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, it was not healthy; in fact, that was the problem.

Harrison used high-pressure cleaning to clear the existing line and inspected it with a camera to confirm everything was okay. In addition, we had to consider how the property had previously been built up. There were two downpipes discharging directly onto the ground, no drainage pit at the low point, and an incorrect fall at the rear of the home directing water toward the building rather than away from it.

Roots of trees, and many more in West Pymble where bushland abuts the back fence. Roots of natives are far more successful than those of gardens and will find any break in the old terracotta connection. The second common cause is the presence of bark and debris from the park blocking stormwater drains.

In most instances, yes. Pipe relining installs a new pipe within the old pipe, meaning nothing in the garden, lawn or driveway will have to be disturbed. First we run a CCTV drain inspection to find the depth and cause of the blockage, confirm the pipe is suitable for relining, then advise the best course of repair and provide a fixed estimate.

Yes, definitely. Indigenous plants have root systems that extend farther and apply greater pressure compared to any non-indigenous plants in a yard. Since the reserve boundary sits close to your sewer line, a cracked joint gets found faster, so professional pipe relining is worth doing rather than to clear blockages again every season.
